Historic Tours
Historic Nogales Tours. Volume 1.

"We have a culture of our own," is what you'll hear from the heirs of Nogales pathfinders. The cultural fabric is woven from the strands of the cattle, commerce, retail, railroad, mining, military, and produce industries. And if the warp is industry, the weave is people. The city was a cultural vessel that embraced Asian, European, Mexican, Anglo-Saxon, Middle Eastern, and Black influences and, today, still lends depth to the tapestry of Nogales.

Your tour guide, Maestro Ochoa will escort you through the historic treasures of Nogales. He thrilled generations of Nogalians by showing up with his bicycle cart filled with candy each day after school. The famous cart, now on display in the Pimería Alta Museum, and, his store, El Charrito, can still be seen through layers of paint when you make the stop on Elm Street. Maestro Ochoa represents important strands of the Nogales fabric including innovation, commitment, and diversity.

Follow the Blue Tour along Morley and Grand Avenues and enjoy the commercial center of early Nogales. For the aerobically inclined, try the Red Tour up the many wonderful historic homes on Crawford Street. It is a steep climb with many rewards. The Gold Tour is the route for those who choose to drive and walk the tracks of time from then 'til now. Maestro Ochoa says, 'let the tours begin.'

BLUE TOUR: Morley and Grand Avenues

Begin the Blue Tour at the Pimeria Alta Museum-the Old Town Hall. In 1914, the Nogales Volunteer Fire Department pitched in and built the Old Town Hall on Grand Avenue, which is now home to many historic treasures. Designed by the renowned Tucson architect Henry O. If you look closely, you can see the El Charrito's sign through the years and coats of paint. His after-school arrival delighted generations of Nogales' children with sweets and was the signal for play to begin on Crawford Street.
